Chinese Language Curriculum
Our Chinese Language curriculum is thoughtfully designed to nurture confident communicators, critical thinkers, and culturally rooted learners. Through a balanced approach that integrates language skills, cultural appreciation, and authentic learning experiences, we aim to cultivate students’ love for the Chinese language while equipping them with 21st century competencies.
Enrichment Programmes and Cultural Experiences
We believe that language learning extends beyond the classroom. Our students participate in a wide range of enrichment programmes to deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture and heritage.
The Cultural Performance Exposure Scheme (CPES) provides students with opportunities to experience Chinese culture in authentic settings, allowing them to appreciate traditions within an immersive learning environment.
The annual Mother Tongue Fortnight is a vibrant celebration of language and culture. Students engage in craft workshops, cultural games, and experiential activities that make language learning lively and relevant.
Our Chinese New Year celebration offers authentic opportunities for students to experience festive customs and values. Through performances and VIA initiatives such as Project Hongbao, students learn the spirit of compassion, gratitude, and generosity while strengthening their cultural identity.
Teaching and Learning
Our curriculum adopts engaging, student-centred pedagogies to build strong language foundations. Through role-play, drama, group discussions, and collaborative tasks, students construct knowledge and apply language skills in meaningful contexts. We also harness technology to enhance language acquisition, using digital platforms to actively involve students.
Well-designed learning packages provide structured support for reading, oral communication, and writing skills. Differentiated materials address diverse learning needs, ensuring that every student can progress with confidence.
Participation in Competitions
We encourage students to participate in both external and school-based competitions to build confidence, develop resilience, and showcase their talents. Competitions include:
-
Penmanship Competitions (硬笔书法比赛)
-
National Text Recital Competition (全国课文朗读比赛)
-
Writing Competitions (作文创作比赛)
-
National Primary School “Picture Book Creation” Competition (全国绘本创作比赛)
Promoting the Culture of Reading
Students are subscribed to Joy Reader, which provides engaging reading materials tailored to their proficiency levels. This supports vocabulary development, comprehension skills, and the cultivation of sustained reading habits.
During the weekly reading period, activities such as mass reading, teacher-guided reading, book sharing, and reading reflections are conducted to nurture students’ love for reading.
